Another spectacular weather day here in Sedona. It would be in the mid-80s by this afternoon. We started our day with a return trip up to the Airport Mesa for a spectacular view of the city at the bottom of the canyon.
Our adventure of the day would be a two-hour Pink Jeep ride up through the Broken Arrow Trail with about six or seven people in the back of a pink Jeep bouncing up and down along the Forest road. Our trip included two stops where we could scramble up the "slick rock". Our guide Brian was informative and funny!
After the Jeep ride we went for a lunch of hot dogs and ice cream in what they call "uptown". Then we took a ride out to the what was is called The Chapel of the Holy Cross, a spectacular work of architecture growing out of the rock. Then we rode back to town to the Tlaquepaque Arts and Shopping Village, an assortment of exclusive gift and artists shops.
From there we went back up to the Airport Mesa to watch the sunset at about 6 along with hundreds of other people. Quite the popular spot at sunset! Our goal was to have dinner after that at the Airport Grille but the wait time was an hour so we opted out. We went back back down the hill to an Italian restaurant we had seen only to find a one-hour wait there as well.We went further down the road to another Italian restaurant called "Picazzos",where we only had to wait 20 minutes and it was absolutely excellent!
Sedona is an interesting place. It is larger than you think but totally dominated by tourists, millions of them. We were told that 20% come for the spiritual vortices! Traffic is terrible! Everything looks relatively new including a number of roundabouts and hundreds of restaurants. The views of the red rock canyon are spectacular. Our hotel, the Arroyo Pinion is very nice and convenient to everything. There are literally hundreds of lodging options.
Tomorrow we head back north to Cedar City, Utah.
